Vietnamese Student Union – Hội Sinh Viên Việt Nam

University of California, Los Angeles

The Vietnamese Student Union (VSU), established in 1977, is the official voice of Vietnamese students at UCLA.  VSU exists to advocate for the general, educational, social, cultural, and political welfare of the Vietnamese community at UCLA and beyond.  VSU at UCLA believes that as products of a modern day exodus, the Viet Nam war, young Vietnamese and South East Asian students should strive to further our education while commemorating our rich history and rich ethnic identity.

Our vision:

We are a family, a home away from home. Through identifying with our collective Vietnamese and Southeast Asian experience, we recognize how our history, culture, and refugee struggle shape us today. By nurturing an environment to develop conscious leaders, we empower students to find relevancy and advocate for social justice. With compassion, we address needs servicing to advance the community and beyond.

Major Events:
Vietnamese Culture Night, Southeast Asian Admit Weekend, Black April Commemoration, Welcome Week, Cafe Am

Projects:

Higher Opportunity Program for Education (HOPE) – an outreach project aims at promoting higher education to high school students, particularly at-risk students.  The project provides peer advising, tutoring, leadership development, higher education preps, and more.
